The Hackney Downs Food Assembly is an amazing project and was a lot of fun to work on, there’s a lot of great stories I could tell from a year running the assembly and it's weekly collections.
As foremostly a host, as well as the designer, my main challenge was to make sure the symbiosis between producers-members succeeded. I've met so many great people, and have had a great opportunity to build and nourish strong relationships with all the producers. I also consider myself lucky to be able to utilise my design skills and make something as socially impactful as the Hackney Downs Food Assembly have a more defined image offline and online.
Following the brand guidelines and direction from The Food Assembly I felt it would be nice to some value and meaning to The Hackney Downs version of Food Assembly’s logo (and it needed a bit of love...).
For the launch party we designed and printed some stickers for the tote bags (pictured bottom left) - something that would represent the Food Assembly, the location (Hackney Downs), The Venue (The Russet) and the amazing producers involved
Poster and flyer design
We needed to spread the word With the project being very much about local people and their access to local producers it meant that we could target our market (the good people of Hackney Downs) very specifically, and it wouldn’t be too expensive to experiment with some physical marketing techniques.
We printed a batch of 100 A2 posters (left) and 2000 A5 flyers (middle and right). There was a lot of information to fit into not much space, a lot of moving things around until a pleasant looking design was achieved.
If you haven’t already, it is worth checking The Food Assembly out! It’s social enterprise which brings consumers and people that appreciate the quality in food and local producers together.
With Hackney Downs Food Assembly I've been involved in:

- Flyer design ready for print
- Businesscards Design
- Design for social media (banners, profile pics, marketing posts)
